Summer Dresses: The epic battle between fashion and real bodies

Summer can be a challenge for us busty-ladies who want to indulge in current summer dress trends, but are limited by our need to wrangle D+ bras and the obligatory bra-straps. Especially when fashion favors those who can sometimes pull off going braless – for the sake of an adorable criss-cross spaghetti-strap dress or a super low back halter top.

The smocked dresses at Soul Flower are fantastic options for handsome, comfortable, full coverage and boob minimizing dresses. This of course assumes you have a working relationship with the elastic architecture of a hearty strapless bra. (My current favorite is Victoria’s Secret Bio-Fit. No uni-boob! Plus custom strap options!)
Milkshake Organic Maxi Dress: I have already regaled my love affair with this dress in an earlier blog, but the length and the weight of this dress is still perfect for late summer. The smocked top stays-put over the "girls" and the color looks awesome with a tan.

Vintage Stone-Washed Dress: This dress is comfortable like a swimsuit cover-up and has just enough detail to give you an air of girly-girl on a date or just canoeing (or a canoe date!?! Even better!). WARNING! It’s a short dress – which can cause some panic-at-the-disco (especially if you're tall like me), but I’ve never had any problems with it.

Sanya’s Scarf Dress: Again, my previous blog gushed about how wrinkle free this dress is – but also you can pull off a black bra underneath – assuming the bra structure is a little more balconette – pushing the straps closer to the armpit. The dress is tea-length, making it great for picnics, biking, shopping, napping, you name it!

Mudmee Tie-dye Tube Dress: A great dress-up dress. The full skirt makes you feel completely feminine in that “this-is-what-a-dress-used-to-feel-like” sorta way. The dark color is minimizing and the centered neck tie creates a nice neckline, especially for those who rarely wear halters. Great for any body shape!

I've spent a good portion of my life wrestling with the fact that I'm not lithe like those chickies that model fashion and haircuts, I'm swarthy and my hair is usually disobedient. Having an arsenal of comfortable and carefree dresses that do me (and my body) justice has really kept my summer cool and flirty. Who doesn't love that?!

  1. well, I do wear cup A, but that doesn't spare me this battle!! If you you don't wanna look like a flat tire or a 10yo, you gotta wear a bra with cup A as well.... ;-)

    pretty dresses though!

  2. Thank you for posting this. It's such a challenge to find cute summer things that the ladies will fit in sometimes and I'm glad that someone else is with me in that struggle. Gonna have to check out that strapless bra you speak of haha.

  3. Little boobs are good. They look younger much longer. As for braless...go braless!! Tasteful is the key. All men dont care if your nipples are hard and I'm heterosexual and dont care if a womans nipples protrude through a shirt. She cant help it & shouldnt be punished with a bra for it. If you're big, so what. Let them bounce. Bras dont help hold nature back. As for men, they look at your breasts first anyway no matter what. Men treat me MORE like a lady without a bra and a tasteful shirt. They enjoy our bounce & the idea you might not be wearing one. Not once has a man or woman confronted me in the year I've been braless. I think both sexes hate the person that designed the bra. Set them free!

  4. Oh yeah, I think bra straps AND the clasping device in the back looks disgusting with spaghetti staps. It isn't beautiful, looks like you don't care how you look and, makes you look like you are too reserved of a woman to be satisfying in a relationship. The gypsy women got it right. Flaunt it tastefully and dont give out.
I'm anonymous because I'm just passing through & dont want to deal with any joining. My name is Karen from Missouri. Midwest. Conservative state. Bible thumping territory. Women in the Bible didnt have bras and their breasts were accepted and adored.
Proverbs 5:19- LET her be as the loving deer and pleasant rose;let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
